MUSIC students from a Felixstowe high school have taken part in a jazz festival in one of the resort's German twin towns.

A group of 20 youngsters from Deben High School travelled to Salzwedel, in the former east Germany, for a six-day trip.

Members of the school jazz band played concerts at the festival marking the tenth anniversary of the sister town's youth centre.

Students also met German and Russian students of their own age and spent time discussing their personal ambitions as well as their hopes for the world.

They also attended a discussion where refugees from other parts of the world told how they had fled torture and imprisonment to seek a new life in the West.

The girls from Deben took part in a bowling tournament and the boys took part in a football tournament, though they could not emulate the national team's historic World Cup victory.

The final day of the trip was spent visiting some local historical sites.

A spokesman for the school said: "The students represented the school very well and should be congratulated on both their performance and their involvement. We are very proud of them."
