Suffolk: Your chance to nominate community heroes for special awards

IT is time for our stars to shine.

A selfless volunteer, a brave youngster battling illness, a dedicated member of the emergency services who goes that extra mile to help, heroic members of our armed forces and those who show outstanding bravery – we want to hear about them all. Today The Star is urging people to nominate their Stars of Suffolk ahead of November’s glittering awards ceremony.

Dozens of nominations have already been made across the 13 categories.

Star editor Terry Hunt said the awards are a great chance to show our appreciation for those who dedicate their lives to helping others.

“This year’s event promises to be a very special night,” he said.

“The awards give us an opportunity to say thank you, to recognise those who go the extra mile and those who in the face of extreme adversity battle on with a smile on their face.

“I urge everyone to take the time to think about who in their lives deserves such an accolade.”

Mick Parker, of Parker Communications, one of the organisers, said: “I just love these awards.

“When these people find out they have won they are just blown away – they don’t expect the reward.

“It’s just a wonderful evening.”

Last year more than 300 nominations were received. Winners included Mason Fountain, a seven-year-old battling a brain tumour, in the Young Person of the Year category.

The closing date for nominations is October 19 and the award’s night will take place at Suffolk New College on November 23.
