TOP girl band the Sugababes are to perform in Ipswich it has been revealed.

The band - who have recently been at the top of both the album and singles charts - are to embark on a UK tour early next year and Ipswich will be among the towns they visit.

Currently among the biggest selling artists in the UK, the announcement about the tour comes hot on the heels of a series of appearances by top acts.

Ipswich is earning a well-deserved reputation as a great place for top acts to visit and the arrival of the darlings of the pop world at the Regent will go further to cement that reputation.

In four years together, the Sugababes have released two back to back triple-platinum albums, sold a million singles in the UK, had three number ones, a Brit Award, a Q Award, a Smash Hits Award and an Elle Style Award.

The tour follows the release of their latest album - Taller In More Ways - on October 10 and will see the group perform all their most popular hits and latest songs.

The album hit the top of the charts following it's release and single Push The Button also took the top spot, becoming the band's fourth number one.

The new album has seen a new musical direction for the band and has seen them work with high profile producers and writers.

Speaking about the album, the band have said they are happy with the new sound - and with the tour dates set for March and April next year, the fans will have plenty of time to get to know it.

Band member Heidi Range said: “We've been though a lot.

“There's been a member leave the band, a member joined, we got dropped, got signed again, there's been weird things written about us, Mutya's had a baby… It's our fourth album and there's a lot to say.”

The announcement follows a series of appearances by high profile acts in Ipswich - including this week's Ipswich Regent appearance by boy-band McFly.

Chart topper James Blunt also appeared at the Regent this month and the weekend will see rockers Status Quo take to the stage.

Top comedians have also included the town on their tours and last night saw cult comedy the League of Gentlemen roll into town, while November will be the turn of Matt Lucas and David Walliams, with their hugely popular show - Little Britain.

The town's Portman Road football stadium is also establishing itself as a first class venue and has already played host to acts including Elton John, REM and Neil Diamond.

The Sugababes - Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Heidi Range - are set to appear at the Ipswich Regent on April 4 next year.
