POLICE negotiators had to talk a man down from the Orwell Bridge this morning after he threatened to throw himself off.

Members of the public driving along the eastbound carriageway of the A14 near Ipswich contacted the police at about 5.45am reporting that a man was hanging over the bridge.

Police officers and negotiators were dispatched to the scene and the eastbound carriageway of the road was closed.

Shortly after 8am, the 28-year-old, described as being “very distressed”, was talked down from the bridge.
