A MAN is being treated in hospital after apparently trying to take his own life at an historic Suffolk brewery.

Ambulance and police were called to the Adnams Brewery in East Green, Southwold, at about 10.35am today after a 35-year-old man suffered head injuries.

Andy Wood, managing director at the brewery, said the man, an Adnam's employee, is believed to have sustained the injury in the brewery's fermentation room.

He said: “It was absolutely not an industrial accident.

“It is something very personal to the individual member of staff involved.”

The fermentation room at the Adnams brewery has recently been upgraded with millions being spent on state-of-the-art equipment.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said from the initial call to the incident it appeared that the man had been in collision with a lorry although it is now believed he suffered a fall.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said officers were called to the scene by ambulance staff.

She said the issue has been passed to the Health and Safety Executive.

The injured man was taken to the James Pageat Hospital for treatment to his injuries.
