IPSWICH has taken its rightful place in the sun– the Sun newspaper that is, with an article praising the county town.
As well as dubbing Ipswich "vibrant and full of trendy bars and cafes" Saturday's edition drew readers' attention to the town's 660 listed buildings and 12 medieval churches.
The Marlborough Hotel got a special mention for its comfort and cuisine which was described as out of this world.
Deputy manager Ben Stamp said: "Our sister hotel the Angel in Bury – which recently put up Claudia Schiffer - usually gets all the praise, so it's nice to get a mention."
And whereas Boris Becker may stay at the Angel, the Marlborough in Henley Road did recently count Hale and Pace among its guests.
Ipswich Tourist Information Centre manager, David Stainer, said: "I'm not a Sun reader, I'm more of a Star man.
"Ipswich might be knocked by locals but it has loads of great attractions. Our slogan this year is "You'd be surprised". People are, at last, finding out how great Ipswich really is."
