MORE than 1,700 students and staff of a Woodbridge school donned fancy dress to take part in an eight-mile fundraising walk.

The youngsters from Farlingaye High School had great fun with the day including a massive picnic on Kingston Field overlooking the River Deben as they stopped half-way round the route to enjoy lunch in the autumn sunshine.

The event was organised with military precision with different year groups setting off at different times and members of staff were situated at strategic spots along the entire route to keep them on track, as well as walking with the students.

Each year group chose it own fancy dress theme, ranging from colour codes and cowboys to superheroes.

The aim was to raise as much money as possible - with the proceeds for school and charity, with this year's focus music technology equipment, sports kits and the school council, plus donations to support those who have suffered from the floods in central Africa.

Headteacher Sue Hargadon said: “It's always an amazing event, and the students really enjoy it. We seem to take over the whole town and there's a real party atmosphere.”
