Madonna is to headline the Live Earth gig at London's Wembley Stadium while others will take place in New York, Johannesburg, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney and Hamburg.

The event is expected to be watched by a worldwide audience of two billion people.

Live Earth is the brainchild of former US vice president and environmental crusader Al Gore.

The London line-up also includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kasabian, Black Eyed Peas, Duran Duran and Keane, and will be broadcast live on the BBC.
