NEIGHBOURS today told of a car driving slowly down a quiet country lane moments before fire took hold of a garage and partly built bungalow.

The blaze, which is being treated as suspicious, started in Mill Road, Wyverstone, near Stowmarket, late last night.

Fire fighters from Elmswell and Stowmarket were called to the scene at 11.38pm and took nearly two hours to bring it under control.

They remained at the construction site damping down for another hour but the charred remains of the garage and bungalow continued to smoulder this morning.

A neighbour who alerted the fire service said he first noticed the fire after hearing the noise of a vehicle in his drive.
