POLICE investigating the fatal shooting of a man at an Ipswich nightclub today confirmed they are exploring possible links with a stabbing at a Swindon nightspot.

Jimoh Plunkett, 24, of South London, was gunned down at Zest nightclub in the early hours of December 9 - three other men were also shot and one stabbed.

Officers on the case have been working closely with the Metropolitan police and Essex police on the investigation but it has now emerged they have also liaised with police in Wiltshire.

Police in that county are investigating a stabbing at the Brunel Rooms nightclub in Swindon on the night of December 9 in which a brawl between singers and DJs saw a man stabbed in the leg with a champagne glass.

Five people were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm - two aged 24, two aged 26 and one aged 23.

All five are from the London area and have been released on police bail.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said: “We are liaising with any force who are investigating crimes of a similar nature.

“Officers have spoken to police in Swindon and are aware of the incident there. We have to keep an open mind about whether it is linked or not.”

Police do not know the motive for Mr Plunkett's murder and are yet to find a murder weapon.

A gun found in the Ipswich Village car park behind Zest was not the one used to kill Mr Plunkett.

Nine shots are thought to have been fired in the Princes Street club and forensic examinations have been carried out at the scene.

Officers are continuing to scour CCTV and are travelling the length of the country to speak to up to 800 revellers who were in the club on the night.

Zest nightclub is subject to a temporary closure order which will be reviewed next week.

Police are hoping to close the pub permanently.

A 25-year-old man from the Carshalton area suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder, backside and legs in the incident, an18 year old from Deptford was shot in the leg and a 19 year old from Stanway was shot in his arm.

All three have since been released from hospital and questioned by police.
