Trial date set for six accused of Tavis Spencer-Aitkens murder

Before Ipswich Crown Court today were Isaac Calver, 18, of St Helen’s Street, Ipswich, and Leon Glasgow, 41, of no fixed address, who are the two latest people to be charged with murder after Mr Spencer-Aitkens died from a stab wound on June 2.

Judge Martyn Levett remanded Calver and Glasgow in custody until Monday when they will attend a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court with Aristote Yenge, 22, of no fixed address, Adebayo Amusa, 19, of Sovereign Road in Barking, Callum Plaats, 23, of Findell Drive in Bramford, and a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, who are also accused of murder.

All six defendants have been charged with acting together in the murder of Mr Spencer-Aitkens, 17, of Pownall Road, Ipswich.

Mr Spencer-Aitkens, aged 17, was attacked by a group of males at around 4.50pm on Saturday, June 2 in Packard Avenue, during which he suffered a fatal wound.

His funeral was attended by hundreds of people.

A post mortem examination has taken place and provisional observations made, but the inquest into his death has been adjourned as a result of the ongoing criminal proceedings.

Mr Spencer-Aitken’s mother and step-mother have worked to bring about change in the Nacton area of Ipswich since he died.

Campaigns to prevent knife crime and to give young people in Ipswich more opportunities, particularly during the summer holidays, have also been launched by Ipswich Borough Council.

The Nansen Road Community Centre opened at the start of the summer, providing a space for families and young people to get support and use the space as a chance to study quietly.

The trial of the six defendants is expected to start on November 26.
