FURIOUS council tax protesters today slammed proposals to spend millions of pounds on encouraging walking and cycling as wasting money on luxuries.With fears rife of another huge rise in tax, it was revealed the county council has spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on consultants to draw up packages of projects costing millions for 35 towns across the county.

FURIOUS council tax protesters today slammed proposals to spend millions of pounds on encouraging walking and cycling as wasting money on luxuries.

With fears rife of another huge rise in tax, it was revealed the county council has spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on consultants to draw up packages of projects costing millions for 35 towns across the county.

But while the county continues to spend, one district council – Mid Suffolk – is axing 30 jobs to keep the tax down.

Reg Hartles, of the Suffolk Protest Against Council Tax, said the county council's new transport action plans were blowing cash on projects which were not essential and should only be considered in better times.
