MEMBERS of the public pitched in to help rescue a horse stuck in a ditch today.
Bystanders joined riding club members in Withersfield, near Haverhill, in attempting to rescue the trapped horse before firefighters arrived with airbags and lifting equipment shortly after 11.35am.
Bails of straw were used to support the horse and heavy lifting machinery was borrowed from a nearby farm by two Haverhill fire crews and a rescue team from Newmarket.
The horse was finally freed from the ditch just before 1pm.
