A WOMAN wept tears of relief in an Ipswich court when drug charges against her were dropped.

Sharaha Viesintino, of Lenton Close, Rainham, Essex, had been jointly charged with ten others with smuggling hundreds of pounds of drugs into Britain via Bawdsey in May.

The drugs allegedly involved in the incident were herbal cannabis and amphetamines with a street value of about £480,000.

At hearing at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court, charges against the 26-year-old woman of fraudulent evasion of duty and being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of goods were dropped by the prosecution.

Five other people allegedly involved in the offence were committed to Ipswich Crown Court for trial.

Guy Clements had his bail conditions changed by magistrates to allow him to attend a motorbike event in Warwickshire next month.

Earlier, magistrates had refused to change bail conditions allowing the 28-year-old of Ilchester Road, Dagenham, to holiday in France.

Clements, who has already entered not guilty pleas to charges of fraudulent evasion of duty and being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of goods, was released on conditional bail to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on July 27.

John McCann, 42, of Essex Close, Romford, faces the same charges as Clements. He was released on conditional bail by magistrates to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on July 27 as was 24-year-old Matthew Howes, of Rectory Court, Grays.

Co-defendant Bonnie Simon, of Chingford Avenue, east London, had her bail conditions altered. The times she now has to report to police on London were changed to between 6pm and 8pm. She faces the same smuggling charges as the other co-accused.

Ms Simon was also released on conditional bail to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on July 27.

Isle of Wight man Leonard Haworth, 53, of St Lawrence, Ventnor, faces the same charges. He was remanded in custody to appear at the crown court on the same date.

Five other co-accused have previously been committed to Ipswich Crown Court where they are due to enter pleas to the charges.

They are Sean Clark, 35, of Colman Close, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex; Frenchman Angel Jimenez, 38, from Toulouse; Brian Richardson, 36, of Rantree Fold, Basildon; Mark Rothermel, 41, of Dagenham and Denise Smith, 26, of Kent Road, Dagenham.
