A TEENAGER has died suddenly while taking part in a cross-country run.

Jack Sheriff, 17, from Little Baddow, near Chelmsford, was taking part in a cross-country run in Hylands Park, Writtle, on Friday afternoon.

The air ambulance and a land ambulance were called shortly after 3pm following reports that a person was seriously ill.

The youngster was a pupil at Moulsham High School.

It is believed that two teachers nearby attempted to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

Canon Christine McCafferty, parish priest for Little Baddow, said she had met the boy's parent's yesterdaymorning.

“Obviously everybody is very saddened by the news and we all want to do all we can to support the family. They are coping as best as they can and are being remarkably brave.”

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
