POLICE are today investigating a claim that a 16-year-old girl was indecently assaulted in Ipswich.
The attack happened between 9.30 and 10.30pm yesterday as she walked along a footpath between St Augustine's Gardens and Chilton Road.
She became aware of someone beside her on a bicycle but moved out of the way to allow the man to pass.
The man stopped and then kissed and indecently assaulted her.
The girl believes the man may have been disturbed as he stopped and after a short while and fled on his bike.
The victim made her way home and her mother reported the incident to police, just after midnight today.
Specialist trained officers are now speaking to the girl to get a clearer account of what has happened.
She has described the attacker as white and aged about 20.
She said he was wearing dark clothing, including a hooded top and a scarf around his head.
He rode a dark-coloured mountain bike.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who saw a man fitting this description, is asked to call detective sergeant Carl Fisher at Ipswich CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
