Police have charged a teenager over a snatch and run raid at a jewellers in Ipswich town centre.

Rolanders Saulys, of Union Street, Ipswich, is accused of stealing an £809 ring from Carats in The Buttermarket late yesterday afternoon.

The 19-year-old is also charged with being a detainee who failed to provide a Class A drug sample for police.

Saulys was arrested after being detained outside Costa Coffee in The Buttermarket shortly after 4.30pm.

He was taken to Martlesham police investigation centre where he was charged with the two offences last night.

The Lithuanian-national was originally held on suspicion of burglary at Carats but is now charged with theft.

He is due to appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court this morning.
