A 17-year-old has appeared in court charged with seven offences after a late-night police pursuit ended in a crash which left a town centre road closed for four hours.

Three people were taken to hospital after a Peugeot 208 collided with a tree in Bridge Street, Ipswich, at around 2.45am last Thursday, although they were not seriously hurt.

As a result of the crash a teenager from Ilford has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking by driving dangerously in ‘an unlawfully taken car’. The Peugeot is alleged to have travelled along London Road, Ranelagh Road and Burrell Road before it crashed.

The male is also accused of failing to provide a specimen of blood, possessing a false provisional driving licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop for police, obstructing a police constable and driving without the correct licence.

He made his first appearance before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich and was released until bail to return for a further hearing on Thursday next week.
