An investigation has been launched following the incident in Doncaster at 8.30pm yesterday.
Police said that a suspected stolen Ford Escort failed to stop for officers.
An 18-year-old man died while three other people in the vehicle - including a 17-year-old boy and 12-year-old boy - were taken to hospital for treatment.
The matter has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
