TWO Suffolk teenagers chopped a chunk of hair from a girl's head because she had allegedly slept with one of their boyfriends, a court heard.

Nineteen-year-old Sarah Cornell of Rectory Close, Raydon, and her 17-year-old co-defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to assaulting a 15-year-old girl causing her actual bodily harm.

Sally Freeman, prosecuting at Ipswich Crown Court, said the women allegedly heard rumours that the younger woman's 28-year-old boyfriend had had sex with the girl.

She said: "They were confronting her about the matter. She was persuaded to go back to one of their houses to sort it out. She wrongly believed the boyfriend would be there as well."

It was at the house that her hair was cut on one side.

Mrs Freeman said: "the 15-year-old says: 'Without warning she was hacking off my lovely long hair. I could hear the chopping of the scissors in my ears.'"

Judge Nicholas Beddard heard that both women were of previous good character and that Cornell had a young baby.

He ordered each of them to carry out 80 hours community service and to pay £100 compensation to the victim.
