RESIDENTS terrorised by youths in Ipswich are still calling for immediate action to end to the problems.

Families from Bader Close and Lindbergh Road voiced their concerns to representatives from police and Ipswich Borough Council at a meeting on Monday.

The Star had earlier reported tenants were at their wits' end after youths went on wrecking sprees, setting fire to cars, breaking into sheds and smashing windows and doors.

A council spokesman at the meeting, said: "The meeting came about after we had received complaints about a number of disturbances. We felt that this was the best way forward if we called everyone together and tackled it as a group.

"It was a way of tackling the issues and making sure people didn't feel they were alone in resolving the issues."

Tenants told about problems with youth nuisance, noise disturbance, the unused Four-O-Five club, lighting, security, vehicle and rubbish dumping.

Michael Girling, 50, of Bader Close, had mixed views after the meeting. "In a way I feel positive about it, but in another way I don't.

"For example, I have been calling for CCTV. There is talk about money but with the amount of times windows have been damaged and replaced we could have had that by now.

"We are pleased that the meeting has been held and they have listened, but what we really want now is action. About half the people who live round here didn't turn up to the meeting because they were too frightened."

The issues raised will be discussed at the next meeting of the All Hallows Area Forum on November 20.

The group also agreed to meet again to get feedback from the forum.
