Because the Pigs Gone Wild statues have escaped from their pigsty and will be arriving in the town centre this weekend ready for the official trail launch on Monday.

Like little elves, three teams from St Elizabeth Hospice will beaver away in the small hours, setting the pigs up in their new homes.

Staff from Cars Ipswich will be at the pigsty helping to load the pigs onto trucks so the team from Systematic Logistics International can deliver them to their given habitats.

Norman Lloyd, Pigs Gone Wild project manager, said: “We cannot thank SLI enough for their help, support and expertise in the planning and orchestration of getting these pigs on the trail.

“Their time and knowledge has been invaluable to us and without their staff and equipment, we wouldn’t be able to install our pigs at their given locations.”

He added: “I cannot wait to hear what the local public, and visitors from far and wide, think of them. I hope they love them as much as I do.

“Each sculpture is so incredible and individual, in its own unique way, I know I can’t choose a favourite, so it will be interesting to see which ones draw the most attention.”

Seven of the pigs – Major Tim Pig, Ed Sheer-ham, Ipswich Blue, Pig ‘n’ Mix, Tally-Ho Trotters, Pretty Penny and Pepper Pig – have already been unveiled but the identify of the remaining 32 remains a mystery.

They have been securely stored at a warehouse on the Boss Hall industrial estate in Ipswich, which was kindly offered up by official ‘Pigsty Partner’ the East of England Co-op.

Stuart McDonald, head of property at the East of England Co-op, said: “It’s been great to have been able to offer the pigs a place to call home before this summer’s trail. We will be sad to see them all go, but we can’t wait to see the town come alive when the trail starts.”

A trail map detailing the location of each of the pigs, and the 30 junior versions, will be published in our special Pigs Gone Wild supplement on Monday, or you will be able to download app.
