RAIL passengers in East Anglia are to have access to unlimited bus travel in parts of the region following the launch of a new scheme.

The Plus Bus initiative gives train passengers the option of adding £1 to their normal rail fare to give them a choice of unlimited travel in Ipswich, Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, King's Lynn or Bury St Edmunds.

The nationwide scheme, introduced by Journey Solutions, has been designed to promote integrated rail and bus transport across the UK.

Phil Seago, operations and commercial director for First, said: "A combined bus-rail ticket makes journeys smoother and easier for passengers and it also encourages the use of public transport."

Anglia Railways' communications manager, Kerri Howard, added: "It will help to give integrated transport initiatives a further impetus and will ultimately benefit the passenger through simpler fares, better information about other forms of public transport at stations and a single point of access for information on the internet."
