TWO very different celebrations of Christmas music will be taking place at Felixstowe's seafront theatre this weekend.

Christians from Felixstowe and Ipswich are organising the events – and are inviting the whole community to join them for the special festive season occasions.

On Saturday the Ipswich-based Christian Youth Ministries will be presenting Star of Hope at 7.30pm at the Spa Pavilion.

This will be a celebration of Christmas in music new and old, including jazz, classical and contemporary seasonal music.

Those taking part will include the Woodbridge School Chamber Orchestra, Westbourne High Jazz, Holly Johnston from Copleston High, and choirs and musicians from St Albans High, Deben High and Northgate High schools.

The evening will also feature drama.

Also on the night, there will be the release of a professionally recorded CD featuring many of the schools taking part in the performance at the 913-seater venue. All profits from the CD and evening will go to Christian aid agency charity Tearfund.

Tickets for the event are £4, concessions £3, in advance from the Spa Pavilion box office on 01394 282126, or £5 on the door.

On Sunday at 6.30pm there will be a carol service staged by the Salvation Army.

The theatre was full for this community event last year and organisers hope the turnout will be just as good this time.

The Salvation Army Band will lead the carol singing, and there will also be a number of special musical and other items, and a collection in aid of a charitable cause.
