A drug addict who stole Jack Daniels from Sainsbury's just two days after being given a suspended prison sentenced has been jailed for six months.
Daniel Turner, of Cromer Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty at the town’s magistrates’ court to theft from a shop on January 2.
The 34-year-old also admitted breaching an 18-week suspended prison term he was given on December 31 for shoplifting.
The most recent theft occurred at Sainsbury’s in Upper Brook Street, Ipswich, when Turner stolen two bottles of whiskey worth a total of £44.
John Hughes, representing Turner, said his client was a drug addict and was without his script for a drug substitute at the time. Turner is currently receiving weekly chemotherapy for cancer.
District Judge Roy Brown told Turner: “It’s clear to me the only way shopkeepers and others are going to be protected is you going to be in custody.”
