What type of ship was the Cutty Sark? Who won a ‘Best Actor’ Oscar for the film Training Day?

These were questions asked at the second annual Ipswich John Grose quiz nights which saw almost 300 people take part to help raise over £3,290 for charities

On Thursday h November 17, 15 teams took part in 9 rounds covering a range of subjects at the Peugeot dealership on Goddard Road in Ipswich. The quiz was won by team Force Kindred with an impressive 80 out of a possible 100.

The evening raised a fantastic £1,022.51 for BBC Children in Need and St Elizabeth Hospice.

A week later, at the Ford dealership on Ransomes Europark, the second Ipswich charity quiz took place. A huge £2,268.70 was raised and shared equally between St Elizabeth Hospice and Suffolk Family Carers.

Team Bran Flakes were triumphant over the 29 other teams taking part, only getting five questions wrong in the entire quiz.

Marketing manager Jennifer Reed said: “Members of our team have seen first-hand the fantastic facilities and care services offered by St Elizabeth Hospice. We are also very aware of the invaluable support Suffolk Family Carers give to people of all ages caring for a member of their family and were keen to play our part in helping children across the country through BBC Children in Need, so we were only too pleased to host the quiz nights to raise funds for them all. We’d like to say a big thank you to all those that came along and supported the event, making it the great success that it was.”

The flagship FordStore showroom on Ransomes Europark and Peugeot showroom on Goddard Road offered the perfect venues for the evenings.

“It was great to welcome people into our dealerships who had never visited us before, as well as to see some friendly, familiar faces.” Jennifer added. “We have a great team here at John Grose and I hope all that attended will feel comfortable to visit us again – for next year’s quiz if not before!”

Nikki Brown, Senior Partnerships Officer for St Elizabeth Hospice said: “We are absolutely delighted that John Grose have once again supported St Elizabeth Hospice through their annual charity quizzes. The events were excellent! We really do rely on local people and local businesses to fundraise to keep our services free of charge for the local community. We couldn’t reach out to our 2000 patients a year without them. Thank you!”

Hayley Hancock, Head of Adult Services (Health and Social Care) for Suffolk Family Carers added: “Thank you so much for the money raised from the John Grose Charity Quiz Night. This money will go directly to support family carers who are going through a difficult time with their caring role.”

Compering the quiz at Ransomes Europark was PGA Professional and Director of Golf at Seckford Golf Club, Simon Jay who hosts hundreds of quizzes at the golf club through the year and did a brilliant job of running the show. At Goddard Road, Peugeot Local Business Specialist Simon Long took the reins, asking a great range of questions and leading an evening that was great fun for all who attended.

The Ipswich quiz nights followed the first John Grose charity quiz night in Lowestoft on November 10, where a further £746 was raised for Help an East Coast Child and Suffolk Family Carers, bringing the grand total raised for charity this year to £4,037.64.
