Two people remain in custody this morning and three have been bailed following an assault in Civic Drive, Ipswich, yesterday afternoon.
Suffolk police officers were called at 3.15pm to the stretch of road near the magistrates’ court by the East of England Ambulance Service, after paramedics found a man in his late 20s with a head injury.
A Suffolk police spokeswoman said his injuries were not critical or life-threatening.
One witness at the scene said a woman entered the magistrates court screaming for help that someone had been stabbed.
It is understood that a nearby property in Little Gipping Street was damaged in a related incident when an object was thrown through a window.
The stabbed victim was then treated by paramedics before police arrived at the scene.
A bobble hat was found outside the Axa Insurance building.
Officers investigating the incident arrested five people on suspicion of GBH – a woman and four men – yesterday evening, and all five were being questioned at Martlesham police investigation centre.
The force spokeswoman said that the investigation was ongoing.
Two remain in custody, while a man in his early 30s from Ipswich, a Saxmundham man in his early 30s and a woman of no fixed address in her late 20s have all been bailed until February 8.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information should call police on 101.
