thousands of people are expected at Radio One's One Big Sunday event in Chantry Park, Ipswich this weekend – and a major operation is under way to help music fans and residents.

Suffolk police will cone off roads all around Chantry Park to prevent concert-goers from using nearby residential streets as makeshift car parks.

There will be no parking allowed on the estates around Chantry Park. Onlylocal residents will be allowed through roadblocks.

For wheelchair users, there will be a special drop-off point on Hadleigh Road next to the park. Police will direct car users who are wheelchair-bound to their special car park on the day.

The message from Suffolk police and Ipswich Borough Council is clear – do not try to drive your car any closer to the event than the designated car parks in the hope of finding somewhere to park nearby or you will be turned away.

Event car parks will be situated at various points across the town where you can park all day for £3 and be bussed to and from the event for free.

The car parks will be patrolled by Suffolk police throughout the day. There will be six colour-coded shuttle bus routes serving eight car parks as follows:

* Copdock / London Road park-and-ride site (green)

* Bury Road park-and-ride site (red)

* Hadleigh Road, temporary site in field near the Beagle pub

* Scrivener Drive, temporary site in field opposite Holiday Inn (yellow)

* Bourne Park, buses operate to Stoke Park Drive (pink)

* West End Road, behind Kartouche nightclub (blue)

* The Spiral car park beside Civic Centre (blue)

* Crown car park (buses operate from Crown Street lay-by) (blue).

The colour-coding system will be used to help the public recognise the buses they need. Any member of the public will be able to use the shuttle buses without paying.

Car parks will be open at 8.30am and first buses start at 8.45am. The live concert will begin in Chantry Park at 1.0pm.
