Tiny cheque confuses pensioner

BAFFLED pensioner Joyce Coleman is laughing all the way to the bank after a cheque for four pence arrived in the post.
Joyce, 80, received the cheque from TXU Energi due to a settlement on her account and was so bemused she contacted the Evening Star.
Joyce, who lives in Robeck Road, Ipswich, said she thought it was silly that she had received a cheque for such little money.
She said: "It's just daft – what a waste of time and money.
"It must have cost them ten times that to send me a four pence cheque. I thought it was silly, but it is funny and if you can't see the funny side of it then what can you do?"

A smiling Joyce said that she would not be banking the cheque, and added: "I think I'll stick it on my brick wall instead."
Nick Lakin, spokesman for TXU said: "This is really a question of being open and honest – while a cheque for four pence is an extreme example, we think a cheque for £1 should be sent to an account holder.
"All these little bits of money do add up and rather than hang on to them, we would rather they went back to who they belong to."
