EMILY Johnson appeared into the world weighing less than a bag of sugar.

Weighing just 3lbs and born two months premature the remarkable little baby has beaten all the odds.

Now Emily is fighting fit and has just celebrated her first birthday.

Spending her first six weeks in an incubator she was soon strong enough to make it home for Christmas – giving her loving parents Nigel and Tracey, the best present ever.

Tracey, now 37, had been ill with pre-eclampsyia while pregnant with Emily and because the baby was beginning to get distressed doctors decided to deliver her by caesarean section.

Amazingly the fragile little girl did not even need oxygen to keep her tiny lungs working while she was in her incubator.

Now, twelve months on, Emily is a lively bundle of fun and the apple of her father's eye.

A constant stream of well-wishers trailed through her home in Cooper's Road, Martlesham Heath on her birthday on Wednesday to celebrate the first year of her life.

Her father Nigel, 37, said: "The last year has been wonderful.

"I was made redundant so I was able to spend a lot of time with her.

"I watched her starting to crawl and she has just started pulling herself up to walk."

Mum Tracey is working part time at a Woodbridge garden centre at the moment but out of either of her parents it looks like Emily is following data analyst Nigel in her choice of career.

Because of her fascination with Nigel's computer keyboard, they decided it was high time she had her own keyboard to bash away at for her birthday.

As she makes her way into the second year of her life, Nigel and Tracey are waiting to see if fate will play a hand in getting her a little brother or sister.

But until then Emily seems enough to handle.

Nigel said: "She is so full of life – she has so much energy it is incredible."
