MARKET traders may welcome people spending cash at their stalls, but they're fuming at not being allowed to spend a penny themselves!

IPSWICH market traders may welcome people spending cash at their stalls, but they're fuming at not being allowed to spend a penny

themselves!

Ladies and gents trading on the Cornhill are amazed that they have been banned from using toilets in the town hall.

The move has left desperate traders cross-legged, or running to Debenhams or Tower Ramparts.

Michael Horton-Jones, who helps set up various stalls including the hair accessory stall, said: "The toilets in Debenhams are upstairs, and Tower Ramparts is just was

too far away.

"It's no good for some people who man their stalls on their own and can't risk leaving them for so long.

"When the market was first set up, we went to the town hall. It was arranged that all the traders could use the toilets there, but we weren't given the door code so somebody had to let us in.

"When the downstairs rooms are open for trade fairs those people are allowed to use them, and, occasionally, even members of the public.

"But now they have banned us because it's a security risk.

"It's not as though traders were in and out of there all the time, but one traders has a health condition which means he needs to be close to toilets.

"It really is stupid that they have banned us."

An Ipswich council spokesman said: "There never has been any formal agreement with the traders, and we have had to take this action on the grounds of security."
