Tonnes of manure on fire

FIREFIGHTERS have been called to deal with huge pile of manure on fire in Stanton.Crews from Ixworth and Elmswell attended the scene in Sumner Road at about 10.10am.

FIREFIGHTERS have been called to deal with huge pile of manure on fire in Stanton.

Crews from Ixworth and Elmswell attended the scene in Sumner Road at about 10.10am to find 1,500 tonnes of manure on fire.

Much of the manure has now been removed by diggers but 100 tonnes of manure is still smouldering at the scene.

The Environment Agency has been called to the incident to assist.

A spokeswoman for the Suffolk Fire Service said firefighters are still at the scene as it will take a while to dampen down.

A fire investigation has been launched.
