IT IS all change at commercial radio station SGR again as it has been revealed that programme controller Mark Pryke is to leave because of company restructuring.

The Evening Star can reveal today that Mr Pryke's position has been made redundant but he has been asked to apply for other jobs within the company.

In March, Ipswich based managing director Mike Stewart admitted that there was a general group consolidation taking place within the company but a spokeswoman for GWR had refused to speculate on whether this would mean job cuts.

However spokeswoman for London based firm GWR, Jessica Alder, said that the position had been made redundant as a result of the changes.

She said: "Because of the restructuring the position has been made redundant.

"Mark has been invited to apply for other positions in the group."

However she would not comment on whether there would be more job cuts as a result of the consolidation.

Mr Pryke, known as Prykie, is a well known figure within Suffolk, having worked on the airways since 1985.

The 43-year-old has worked as a DJ on Radio Orwell in Ipswich and Bury based Saxon Radio which both later became SGR FM.

Today Mr Pryke said that the decision was an amicable one. He said: "I shall be working to make sure there will be a smooth transition to the new management structure.

"It is all amicable."

It is not yet clear exactly when Mr Pryke's position will come to an end.

The news comes just weeks after popular early morning host, Gareth Evans from the popular Gareth and Vicky show announced that he was leaving.

Mr Evans left to go to a radio station in Bedford so he and his wife Jo could be nearer to their families in Manchester and Northampton.

SGR is owned by GWR Group plc and has a sister radio station Broadland 102 in Norwich.

The group has about 40 local stations and also owns the national stations Classic FM, Core and Planet Rock.

It also has interests in stations in Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, Holland, Hungary and South Africa.
