A SUFFOLK councillor has been charged with ten child porn offences, it was revealed today.
Conservative David Smith – a Felixstowe town and Suffolk Coastal district councillor – is alleged to have committed the offences over a four-year period.
Smith, 39, of Orchard Row, Grange Road, Felixstowe, has been charged with ten offences of making indecent photos of a child between August 1999 and August this year.
He had already appeared once before magistrates and has indicated a not guilty plea. He is due to appear before South-East Suffolk Magistrates again on January 12.
Smith, regarded highly by his political colleagues, suddenly stepped down from his post on Suffolk Coastal's cabinet last month due to "family and business commitments". He is still serving as a councillor for Felixstowe south ward.
