IPSWICH town chief executive Simon Clegg is to make a keynote speech at the Ipswich and Suffolk Press Ball, organisers revealed today.
The leader of Britain's record breaking Olympic team in Beijing last summer will take over as chief executive at ITFC at the end of the season.
His speech, to be delivered at the prestigious event held at the Hotel Elizabeth, Copdock, on June 19, is expected to be a much-anticipated highlight of the evening attended by 400 guests from the county's business community.
The Press Ball is expected to raise thousands for chosen charity Cystic Fibrosis Trust (CFT).
Mr Clegg, 49, was chief executive of the British Olympic Association for 12 years and chef de mission of Team GB. He left in December following a restructuring of the organisation and has now accepted the offer from Ipswich owner Marcus Evans.
Mr Clegg said: “I am delighted to be speaking at the Ipswich and Suffolk Press Ball. This event raises much needed cash for a very worthwhile charity and I am pleased to be able to offer the Press Ball my support.”
Evening Star editor Nigel Pickover said: “Simon Clegg has generously leant his backing to the Press Ball and we are honoured he has agreed to take part in the evening.
“Mr Clegg has already announced details of a battle plan to return ITFC back to the Premier League and usher in a golden era for the club.
“We look forward to hearing what he has to say and thank him for his support.”
As announced in The Evening Star, headline acts will include rock legend and soul sensation Ray Lewis of The Drifters fame who will perform at the Soul Ball themed night of nights.
Regularly and strongly supported by the county's business community, the Press Ball is once again sponsored by Ipswich firm Call Connection.
To be held at the Hotel Elizabeth, Copdock, on Friday, June 19, music, dancing, fine food and wines will be followed by an auction and tombola with prizes donated by a number of businesses and organisations.
