Town gear up for Dutch friendly

PUBLISHED: 12:45 03 August 2001 | UPDATED: 15:16 03 March 2010

GET there early and be careful of the building work - that's the message from officials at Portman Road ahead of tomorrow's showpiece friendly between Ipswich Town and Dutch Champions PSV Eindhoven.

GET there early and be careful of the building work … that's the message today from officials at Portman Road ahead of tomorrow's showpiece friendly between Ipswich Town and Dutch Champions PSV Eindhoven.

Only two thirds of the ground will be open, due to building work taking place on the new North Stand and part of the Cobbold Stand.

This will bring the capacity down to 18,000.

The new South Stand will also be partially closed as builders add the finishing touches before the first home game against Derby County on Tuesday, August 21.

The message to supporters attending the PSV game is to avoid approaching the ground from the area of the North Stand for safety reasons.

The match is Ipswich's only home pre-season friendly and the club is aware that supporters attending the match will find an unfamiliar look to Portman Road.

Town are urging fans to get to the ground early – as there will be plenty of pre-match entertainment.

There will be a series of fun games and skill challenges

featuring specially selected young boys and girls.

At 2.15pm, Rob Chandler, together with mascots Bluey and Crazee will appear on the pitch, followed by new Blues Crew

chairman Marcus Stewart.

There will also be a presentation by BBC Radio Suffolk's Mark Murphy of four signed Ipswich Town shirts to winners of the

season countdown competition.

There are still plenty of tickets available for the game, which will be on sale up until kick off

tomorrow at 3pm.

Tickets will also be available at turnstiles tomorrow.

n Ipswich Town's official website www.itfc.co.uk will be offering full match commentary of the PSV friendly.

n BBC Radio Suffolk, fresh from the news that SGRfm's Town commentator Bryan Knights is set to join the commentary team of Terry Baxter and Kevin Beattie, will have full match coverage between 2pm-6pm with Glen Speller.
