ONLY hours after Joe Royle's shock departure from Portman Road, speculation is already mounting as to who will lead Ipswich Town next season.

Colchester United boss Phil Parkinson has been linked with the position after the incredible job he has carried out in Essex this season.

The Us were promoted last Saturday despite their small following and lack of finances.

It would not be the first time that Town have pinched a manager from the Layer Road outfit, with George Burley leaving to become the Blues boss at the end of 1994.

However, Parkinson has already stated he is keen at having a crack at managing his side in the Championship.

Another contender is Tony Mowbray who has already managed the Blues.

Mogga took charge after Burley was sacked in 2002, but after some unconvincing performances, the uncompromising defender was overlooked.

And after Royle was offered the job, Mowbray was soon on his way north off the border to take charge at Hibernian who have enjoyed a renaissance under his stewardship.
