Traffic chaos hits Suffolk roads

SUFFOLK roads were in chaos today as a number of accidents left some roads blocked or partially blocked in the height of rush hour traffic.

Hazardous weather conditions and dark mornings meant treacherous conditions for many drivers.

In Saxmundham a school bus crashed near the first turning into the town near Mitford Road.

The bus was travelling on the northbound carriage of the A12. All the children were taken off the bus unharmed.

On the A14 Bury-bound carriageway near the Orwell Bridge a crash involving at least three vehicles left the whole road blocked. The accident happened just after 8am, two cars crashed in to the barrier and one went off in to the side lane.

Police had managed to get one lane open by 9am but there were serious delays and tailbacks as drivers headed to work in the town centre.

One person was still in a vehicle at 8.30am but there were no serious injuries.

In Bury St Edmunds a two-car accident on the A134 was reported at around 9am. No one was injured.

In Hintlesham just after 10am a car careered off the road and in to a field after a collision with a lorry.

The Ford Mondeo was travelling on the B1071 when the accident happened.

Two people were taken to hospital, including the driver of the Mondeo, who was taken to Ipswich Hospital with neck injuries. They are not thought to be serious injuries.

In Howard Street, off Woodbridge Road, in Ipswich, police were called to a car that had rolled in to the road after the handbrake was left off. Police were called just after 9am this morning.

The car had been moved out of the road when then police turned up. No one was in the car when it rolled over.
