LORRIES are being processed through the Port of Felixstowe again after winds dropped sufficiently for the container section to reopen.

Vehicles headed for the port were made to queue on the A45 at Levington after Operation Stack was put into place at about 2.30am today after the container section at the port was closed due to high winds.

By 9.30am wind at the port had dropped below the 45mph necessary for lorries to be processed.

A spokesman for the Port of Felixstowe said Operation Stack remains in place and lorries are only being processed after queuing in the system.

It is unclear how long the port will be open for as high winds are predicted throughout the day.

“Winds are forecast to rise again later in the day,” the spokesman said.

“Looking at the forecast it seems highly likely the container section will be closed tomorrow morning as well.”
