THE trial of Suffolk schoolteacher Frank Schmidt, who is accused indecent assault, was delayed today after lawyers dealing with case were caught up in the train crash near Colchester.

Schmidt, 34, was due in Bury St Edmunds Crown Court after pleading not guilty to two counts of indecent assault on a female.

The religious studies teacher, who works at East Bergholt High, was left waiting after both defence and prosecution barristers were stranded in Cambridge.

Their train eventually arrived at Bury Crown Court just after 11am.

Schmidt, of George Street, Hadleigh is alleged to have carried out the assaults between July 14 and August 14, 2001. He has remained on unconditional bail since his arrest.
