A MINUTE silence has been held for a young woman killed when the car she was in split in two in a horror crash on the A140.

Family and friends gathered last night at the Bucks Head pub, in Thwaite, to remember Kirsty Cracknell, the pub's assistant manageress who was killed in a car crash on Sunday morning.

A young man who was in the same car, a Vauxhall Tigra, also lost his life. His identity has not yet been released.

The crash, which led to the closure of the A140 for seven hours, happened at about 3am and involved two cars - the red Vauxhall and a blue Volkswagen, as reported on The Evening Star website.

They collided on the brow of a shallow hill, about 200 yards north of Brockford Garage and within a 40mph speed limit zone.

The occupants of the Volkswagen were taken to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital for treatment for injuries which were described as “minor”.

Ms Cracknell, who lived in a bungalow in Roman Way, Stoke Ash, had been working at Bucks Head for the pub's new tenants who took over two months ago.

Today neighbours in Stoke Ash paid tribute to her.

Linda Munro said: “She was a fun-loving girl and always had a smile on her face.”

Jane Walsh added: “When we heard about her death the community was in shock. We just all come out of our front doors to have a chat and cried in each others arms.

“She was an animal lover and had two cats. She had an ill kitten and would always take it to work at the Bucks Head. The regulars would love to see it.”

The community gathered for a tribute of Miss Cracknell's life at the pub she worked in last night. There was a minute's silence, three cheers for her and a photograph of her hung on the wall. Family attended from as far away as Doncaster.

It is the first fatal accident on the Suffolk stretch of the A140 between Coddenham and Scole since February.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward. They should contact Pc Dave Taylor at force headquarters on 01473 613500.
