Trimley: Charity is having a ball thanks to pub game fun

REGULARS at a village pub have helped to raise hundreds of pounds for charity with a unique game – show us your balls!

Three Mariners landlady Debbie Atkinson encouraged punters to pay 1 for a pair of ball bearings.

Participants were then asked to “show their balls” when they arrived at the pub in High Road, Trimley St Mary, and fined 50p if they could not produce them.

The venture has been going since last July and has raised about 500 for the Woolverstone Wish Foundation to refurbish the chemotherapy outpatient clinics and day unit in the Woolverstone Wing of Ipswich Hospital.

Debbie said: “I’m really pleased. We recently lost a customer who had leukaemia and we heard about them not having the room in the wards so we decided to do it for that.”

The pub runs a number of charity events every year and Mrs Atkinson revealed her customers are still enjoying the game.

She added: “We have a laugh because it is rather smutty and the game will keep on running.”
