A 46-year-old man is facing a possible jail term after pleading guilty to having nearly 280,000 indecent images of children.
Gavin Spurr, of The Avenue, Trimley St Mary, admitted four offences when he appeared before Ipswich Crown Court today.
Three of the charges relate to making indecent photographs of children on, or before, July 12, 2016.
One of the offences involves 8,520 still images and 449 movies graded at Category A – the most serious grading of such photographs.
The second charge involves 14,582 images and 448 movies at Category B level.
The third offence relates to 252,002 images and 332 movies at Category C.
Spurr also admitted a fourth charge of possessing a prohibited image of a child.
Prosecutor Michael Crimp said Spurr had no previous convictions for offences of a similar nature.
The court was told that as there were a significant number of Category A images the sentencing guidelines meant the starting point for sentencing was 12 months’ imprisonment, whether immediate or suspended.
Spurr was released on conditional bail and his case was adjourned until on, or shortly after, May 16 for a pre-sentence report.
