THREE boys will appear in court following an attack on a school in which 12 classrooms were targeted and £15,000 of damage caused.

The youngsters – two boys aged 11 and one boy aged 10 – have been charged by police with criminal damage at Stowmarket Middle School and will appear before St Edmundsbury Juvenile Court on Wednesday.

It follows an attack on the Walnut Tree Walk school on June 7 which forced it to close for two days while a team of 45 teachers, staff and volunteers cleared up the damage caused in 12 of its 13 classrooms.

Musical instruments had been left in pieces, text books damaged, carpets flooded, hi-tech equipment wrecked and youngsters' work ripped down from walls.

Chairs had also been overturned, toilets attacked, trophies thrown through windows, excrement dropped in front of a fan and spread around the classroom, ceilings damaged and doors vandalised.

Work had been scattered across the floor, a projector thrown to the ground, a fire extinguisher let off, a £3,000 interactive whiteboard – which allowed teachers to display the internet on the board – ripped from the wall, a filing cabinet thrown down the stairs and a sink blocked in an effort to flood a room.

But the community rallied behind Stowmarket Middle School and pupils and staff were flooded with donations and equipment.

Globes, guitars and books are among the items that have been received and donations, which have topped £600, are still being welcomed.

The town's Asda supermarket has raised £500 through contributions from staff and colleagues, while 10 of the latest Harry Potter books have also been donated to the school library.
