TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill on the A140 after a fatal accident near the crossroads at Stonham today.
The lunch-time crash involving an articulated lorry – in which the deceased was travelling – was involved in an incident with a Transit-type truck and three cars.
Suffolk Police helicopter stood on standby and an occupant of the truck was air lifted to hospital in a Suffolk Air Ambulance.
It is not yet known if there were any other injuries.
The crash which happened just before 1pm, blocked the Norwich to Ipswich road in both directions and police set up a diversion away from the scene of devastation.
Police said that the road would be completely closed for a considerable time while the scene was cleared and preliminary investigations took place into the crash.
It is believed that the other vehicles involved were a BMW, a Ford Modeo and a Ford Fiesta.
The accident happened about 400 yards after the A140-Stowmarket-Debenham cross roads on the Ipswich-bound carriageway.
But the severity of the accident spread across both lanes.
