A SUFFOLK National Trust worker who urinated in a man's boot in a fit of jealousy has been told to unpaid work.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Mark Cornish, 29, of Waterloo Avenue, Leiston, would be "humiliated" by the sentence because he had once supervised people doing community punishment.

The court heard that Cornish had become suspicious and jealous when his girlfriend Haley Cecil began sharing a house with her former fiancé.

Cornish had worked for the National Trust in the Dunwich area when he had met Miss Cecil. She broke off her engagement with a man she had been with for 10 years and had bought a house with and moved back to her parents' home.

However during the "emotional" relationship with Cornish she began to house share with her former boyfriend "just as friends".

When Cornish became suspicious that it was more than just friendship he urinated in the man's £100 boots.

He also grabbed Miss Cecil by the hair and told her she was a "slut" and on another occasion he hurt her by pushing her over.

Cornish, of good previous character, pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault and a charge of causing criminal damage.

Judge Peter Thompson said: "You're behaviour was grossly immature. If it was not so violent it would be childish. You will do 50 hours community punishment, it will humiliate you as you are someone who has had to supervise those doing community punishment in the past."

Cornish was ordered to pay £100 compensation for the boots, £250 to Miss Cecil, £150 towards prosecution costs and the total defence cost which could amount to about £700.
