Two people have been charged with wasting police time after armed officers were called to Wellington Street on Tuesday.
Suffolk Constabulary received a 999 call at 11.10am by someone in a flat claiming there were drugs and a gun at the address before hanging up.
Officers, including the police dog unit, attended the property and cordoned off part of the area as a precaution.
Individuals were questioned and the flat was searched but no weapons or drugs were located.
On Wednesday, police arrested two people from Wellington Street - Emma Smith, aged 41, and Christopher Garcia, aged 43.
They were charged with “causing wasteful employment of the police by knowingly making to Suffolk Constabulary a false report,” a police spokeswoman said.
The pair will appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on September 29.
