IPSWICH pair Damien Duberry and Leon Sobers were today convicted of the murder of barmaid Janet Fleming.

A jury at Norwich Crown Court returned their verdict on the two men after deliberating for over two days.

They returned to the court room this afternoon to return a unanimous verdict of murder and robbery on 21-year-old Duberry, of Morland Road, and a majority verdict of 11-1 to murder and a unanimous verdict of robbery on Sobers, 23, of Birkfield Drive.

After the jury made their decision to the court the pair stormed out of the dock down to the cells and had to be brought back to be sentenced by the Honourable Mr Justice Moses.

The couple had carried out the brutal attack on Ms Fleming as she returned to Harleys pub in Stoke Park Drive to help a colleague who was being attacked by the pair.

Sobers and Duberry had broken into the pub on the evening of December 10 last year to rob Harleys of its takings.

Landlord Andrew Hull was being beaten up by his two attackers and the noise alerted Ms Fleming who returned to help her colleague … only to be killed herself by the pair who attacked her and stamped on her head.
