A 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old male have been arrested and quizzed by detectives after a break-in at a house in Trafford Close in Old Newton.

The pair, from Ipswich, were taken to the town's police station where they were questioned by officers yesterday in relation to the burglary, which occurred between last Friday night and Saturday morning.

A 19-year-old woman, also from Ipswich, was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and taken into custody.

Over the last fortnight there have been at least a dozen raids on houses or vehicles in Bramford and the mid-Suffolk area. Most of these have been on unlocked or unsecured property.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police stressed the trio currently being questioned were only being quizzed about the break-in at Old Newton.

She declined to say whether detectives will be speaking to them about any other reported offences.

The latest spate in Bramford are thought to have happened between last Sunday night and Monday morning.

Police have said although no formal link has yet been made between those and the ones in mid-Suffolk, the investigating officers will be liaising with each other to discuss the possibility.

During the previous two weeks premises and vehicles in Mendlesham, Stowupland, Stowmarket, and Thurston were targeted by a gang of thieves.

The latest thefts occurred when burglars got into what police have termed an 'insecure' garage in Angel Road, Bramford, between 10pm Sunday and 7am Monday. They then broke into an unlocked BMW and stole cash which had been left inside the car.

An unlocked Vauxhall Zafira was broken-into on the drive way of a house in Acton Close, between 3pm Sunday and 11am Monday. The offenders made off with a handbag. The bag was later found discarded nearby with cash and bank cards missing.

The third offence being linked happened in Bramford Road, between 6pm Friday, and 11am Monday, when thieves got into a Vauxhall Frontera on a driveway and stole a stereo and CDs. A silver mountain bike was also stolen from the driveway.

After one of the mid-Suffolk burglaries police were told a group of five young males were seen acting suspiciously outside a property.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents should telephone 01603 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
