Two men who fractured another man’s cheekbone in a nightspot attack have been given suspended prison sentences and banned from pubs and clubs in Ipswich town centre.

Thomas Dowsing, of Oulton Road, Ipswich, and Grant Mowles, of Turner Road, Ipswich, had previous pleased guilty to grievous bodily harm to Damien Jeeves.

The assault occurred after bad feeling boiled over following the breakdown of a relationship between Mr Jeeves and Mowles’ sister.

When 26-year-old Dowsing and Mowles returned to South East Suffolk Magistrates Court for their sentencing following the compilation of a pre-sentence report by the probation service the pair were each given six months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.

They were also told they must abide by a 12-week home curfews. Dowsing’s is between 9pm and 6am, while Mowles’ curfew is between 9pm and 7am.

In addition both men were excluded from pubs and nightclubs in Ipswich town centre for 12 months.

Each must also pay Mr Jeeves £250 compensation for his injury.

At their plea hearing in December the court heard all three men were in KC’s Bar and Nightclub in Cornhill, Ipswich, on October 25 at around 2.30am to 3am when 22-year-old Mowles walked over to Mr Jeeves.

Prosecutor Tess Mann said Mr Jeeves was threatened and then punched to the side of the face by Mowles before being held back by other people.

Dowsing then spoke to Mr Jeeves before punching him.

As a result of the blows Mr Jeeves sustained a fractured cheekbone.

Mrs Mann said it was an attack motivated by revenge following the ending of a relationship Mr Jeeves and with Mowles’ sister.

However, Ian Persaud, representing Dowsing, denied the assault was born out of revenge. He said Dowsing had been drinking and was irritated as his friend Mowles had been upset over previous issues between himself and Mr Jeeves.

Mr Jeeves did not require surgery for his injury.
